This is a great development for the two countries and the region. Ethiopia is the first country in Africa to accept both Christianity and Islam. Some of the earliest christians and moslems in the world have been Ethiopians. Many Ethiopians including the founders of old Islamic sultanate in Shiwa (about 10 century AD) were descendants of people who immigrated from Saudi Arabia. Many Saudis are descendants of Ethiopians who crossed the Red Sea into Mecca and Jedha. It is Said King Ezana’s (the first christian Emperor of Axum and Ethiopia) wife was from Mecca. In the recent past Ras Ali later King Michael as well as Bitweded Ali Mira trace their roots to non other the Prophet Mohamed.
