Ethiopia peg back Tunisia

Posted by Ethio Tribune on January 8, 2013

Saladin Said – Scored for Ethiopia

Ethiopia forced Tunisia to a 1-1 draw on Monday in what their coach had described as their biggest test leading up to this month’s AFCON.

Striker Saladin Said’s second-half equaliser earned Ethiopia a draw in this warm-up game staged in Doha, Qatar.

Said’s goal comes just seven days after joining Ethiopia in camp following his earlier than expected release by Egyptian club Wadi Gegla for the 2013 Africa Cup.

The Egypt-based strikers’ long-range shot in the 64th minute made sure Ethiopia maintained their unbeaten run in their Africa Cup of Nations build-ups in the sides’ second friendly game.

Monday’s draw comes on the back of their 1-0 home win over Niger on December 30 in Addis Ababa in their first preparatory game.

Tunisia took the lead in the fourth minute through their Swiss-based midfielder Oussama Darragi of FC Sion.

Ethiopia are expected to head back home to face Tanzania on January 11 in another friendly.

According to media sources, Ethiopia will host Tanzania in Addis Ababa in what should be Ethiopia’s final warm-up game before heading to South Africa.

The friendly was earlier cancelled after Ethiopia backed out on the plan because they were looking at exclusively playing fellow 2013 Africa Cup finalists.

Ethiopia are expected to arrive in South Africa on January 16.

Ethiopia will be based in Nelspruit where they are in Group C together with Burkina Faso, Nigeria and defending champions Zambia.

Bishaw Sewnet’s team will kick off their Group C action against Zambia on January 21 at Mbombela Stadium.
